Caregiver & Clinical Role Boundaries
Understand what non-clinical caregivers and clinical professionals may be assigned to do.
Non-clinical caregiver and attender duties
Agreed daily-living assistance, companionship, meal-time support where no clinical swallowing intervention is required, routine personal care and mobility assistance where assessed and trained.
Clinical nursing duties
Procedures, medication administration, wound care, tube-related procedures, catheter-related procedures and clinical monitoring require appropriate qualification, authorisation, training and professional scope.
Escalation
Caregivers should report concerns to the assigned family contact or supervisor and follow the agreed escalation plan. They must not diagnose, change medication, alter treatment or independently interpret clinical readings.
Why this matters
Clear role boundaries protect the person receiving care, the family, the employee and the organisation.
