Home Safety Guide
General home-safety topics families can review when arranging support at home.
Clear walking routes
Keep frequently used pathways free of loose rugs, clutter and trailing cables. Ensure common routes are well lit.
Bathroom and personal-care areas
Discuss privacy, water temperature, non-slip surfaces and the level of assistance needed. Any transfer or bathing support should match the person’s assessed abilities and staff training.
Bedside and frequently used items
Keep the call phone, drinking water if permitted, spectacles and everyday items in an agreed accessible place. Follow the treating team’s instructions about food, fluids and positioning.
Medication and clinical supplies
Keep medicines in their original packaging and follow prescriber instructions. Do not change a dose or treatment based on website information.
Emergency planning
Keep local emergency numbers and the treating team’s contact details accessible. Agree who should call for emergency help. JNS is not an emergency medical service.
